Meet the Makers

Rosy: Stitching Dreams, One Piece at a Time

"Hi, I’m Anushika, though most know me as Rosy! For me, stitching at House of Lonali isn't just a job; it's a passion. Each order I work on holds a special significance. Looking back, one project truly stands out: the vibrant batik bags we created in collaboration with the Aluvihare Heritage Center. Each of the 600 bags was unique, bursting with colour and character. It was an incredibly proud moment to see something I crafted with my own hands travel all the way to Amsterdam. This year, I'm excited to expand my skills by learning new techniques like patchwork and embroidery, and to explore the exciting new creations for House of Lonali."

Senarath: The Master of Detail, Stitching with Pride

"My name is Senarath, but around here, I'm often called Wattala Malli, even though Kandana is home. My speciality at House of Lonali is stitching trousers, and if I had to pick a favourite, it would be the Rainforest shorts. There's a real sense of satisfaction in carefully crafting each pair. Knowing that someone, somewhere, is wearing something I've stitched with care would truly make my day. This year has presented its challenges, but I'm determined to face them with hard work and a positive outlook, continuing to contribute my best to House of Lonali."

Dishna: Stitching with Purpose, Giving Back to the Community

"I'm Dishna, and the magic of transforming fabric into beautiful bags is what I love most about my work. Last year, a visit to a local children’s orphanage left a deep impression on me. Witnessing their difficulties was truly moving, and I felt so grateful that we were able to offer them a meal. It reinforced my desire to give back. This year, I'm looking forward to tackling a larger production order, and I'm excited about involving more people in the process, creating opportunities to continue supporting our community in meaningful ways."

Poornika: Crafting Beauty, Inspired by Admiration

"My name is Poornika, the Sala dress and the Buttonoy dress hold a special place in my heart. They always come together so beautifully, and I feel a real sense of accomplishment with each one I complete. However, the most rewarding feeling is seeing someone wear a dress I've stitched and truly admire it. That appreciation makes all the effort worthwhile. My hope is to continue this creative journey with House of Lonali for many years to come, growing both personally and professionally as we create together."
